Seaside 5K

Friday morning I was on my way to Seaside with Melissa and Kate, while tornados were everyhwere in North Alabama.

We were glad to be headed for the sunny beach!

Saturday it rained ALL day long! We had to pick up our race packets at noon and so while we were out in the rain why not get soaking wet..we shopped around Seaside.

This year we decided on the 5K instead of the 1/2 marathon. The great thing is you still get the cute t-shirt and the Vera Bradley tote bag.

We were up bright and early on Sunday to run.

After finishing the 5K we sat and enjoyed the beautiful weather and ate our Jim and Nick's BBQ!

Sunday after the race I hate a WONDERFUL TREAT!! Ginny, Hunter, and the boys drove from Andalusia to have lunch with ME!! The visit was WAY to short but it was GREAT to see them!!

We are already planning our trip for next year's race...I can't wait!

My sister and her husband have bought a new house.

She asked me help her pick out fabrics, lamps, rugs, etc.

We have been here there and yonder looking for what she needs....it has been so much fun!

It is always more fun when it is someone else's money..HA!

The fabrics for her living room and dining room

I think are my favorite.

Her living room/dining room is one big room.

This is for 2 chairs that were our grandparents that she is having recovered.

This fabric is for the drapes.

She has 2 big windows on each side of the room.

This fabric is also being used to make 2 small

rectangular pillows to go in the chairs.

These 2 fabrics are for pillows for her sofa.

The sofa is a white/off white long sofa that was

also our grandparents.

She is having 4 20x20 pillows made in the fabric on the right.

and 2 18x18 pillows made in the fabric on the left.

The fabrics looks totally different online...the yellowish/gold color does match/coordinate with all 3 fabrics even though it does not look like it.

Friday I headed to ATL.

Friday night we celebrated Rigsby's Birthday.

Saturday we "sprinkled" 61 with presents for Carter that will be here soon.

I wish I could see these girls more often!!

I was not feeling very weel so I headed back to Decatur after the shower. I was in Atlanta though and had to take the opprotunity to stop by Ballard Design's Backroom. I was so glad I did. I found the coffee table I had been wanting and mirrors for my dining room. I am not in love with the color of the mirrors but I hope that is something I can fix with a little bit of paint.

I have lots of projects to complete this year!

My grandfather has moved to an assisted living and so my parents have put his house up for sale. My sisters and I went a few weeks ago and picked out the items we wanted.

I picked this chair. There are actually 2 just a like but I am only recovering one of them right now. I decided to put the chair in my breakfast area. I love the green color of the chair but the fabric no so much. After looking at lots of fabric I think I have decided on the one below to have it recovered in.

I finally picked a fabric for the roman shades in my kitchen.

The lady is coming tomorrow to measure and get

started on making them.

I also picked this light fixture from my grandfathers. I now just have to find a place for it....I am thinking a guest bedroom.

This is one of my guest closets. I know it does not look

it but it is kinda organized.

I really want it to be more of a functional closet that I can

use for my paints, ribbons, etc.

I really like to take my camera most places I go...you never know when you might need it. My purses don't really make it easy to take it with me. My purses are usually big enough but it just doesn't work...

My family had a great Thanksgiving.

My mom, sisters, and I started the day by making a few Pre-Black Friday purchases at Old Navy. My mom found Angry Bird shirts while we were there and got them for the boys. They loved them! Put put his on but Jack wanted to stay in the holiday spirit with his turkey shirt.

Have you ever been looking for something and then find something else you just have to have?

That is what happened to me last week. My mom and I went to a store in Cullman for their Christmas Open House. I was looking for a light fixture to go in my kitchen. We did not see anything but then we stumbled upon something else. I found this cute light fixture for my breakfast area. Guess I willl keep looking for something to go in my kitchen....

This is going up tomorrow!

When I moved in my house there was a not so cute fixture above the breakfast table.

For a quick fix I replaced it with this...

I think my new fixture will look much better.

My First House

The house I live in now is "my first house". I have been wanting a sketch of it since I moved it. I looked around and could never find someone that did something exactly like I wanted.

Well, about a month ago I was reading a blog that I follow and decided I had found the artist I wanted to do a sketch of my house. Anne Harwell is the artist. She has a great blog and etsy shop.

I sent her the picture below about 2 weeks ago.

I am a little picky so I had her change a few things...like replace the mums with ferns...

and this is what I got today.....

I LOVE IT!

It is exactly what I have been wanting!

I can't wait to frame it and hang it on the wall.

Woodmeade 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run

The idea of having a 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run at my school was talked about last April...

The idea turned in to a reality on November 12th.

Lori, Melissa, and I hit the ground running planning this event in April. All three of us have run in races BUT never have planned one. We knew it was going to be A LOT of work but was going to be well worth it for our school!

We spent hours asking for sponsors, getting donations, and planning, planning, planning!

I have a small problem when it comes to organizing something...I am just a tad bit OCD! I spent hours worrying and hoping that everything would turn out JUST PERFECT.

All the planning and organizing payed off...I think the day could not have been more perfect!

We had around 225 5K runners and around 150 1 Mile Fun Run runners!

My family turned it in to a family affair..

Shelley ran the 5K,

my cousin Molly ran the 5K,

and my dad ran the 5K.

Put ran in his 1st 1 Mile Fun Run and did GREAT!

Web was a huge help with the clock/timing system!

My mom worked in the Pepsi Wagon passing out drinks to the runners.

This event would not have been possible with out all of the donations, volunteers, and runners. THANKS YOU!!

My parents treated my sisters and me with a trip to the beach this past week. 7 adults and 2 children in a condo gets a little crowded but it is worth every minute it of it. With Jack and Put dancing and singing to entertain us there is never a dull moment!

The weather was a little chilly but these boys could have cared less.

We celebrated Put's 6th birthday on Friday.

Put modeling his new Falcons jersey he got for his birthday.

The weather warmed up a little and we headed back outside to the beach and pool on Saturday.

My floors are sanded and stained...tomorrow they will be complete. Friday all the work will be done after the baseboards are put up.

I can't wait to paint the walls and put all the furniture back in!

I have looked EVERYWHERE for a rug to go in my living room. Below is a picture of what I want. I just can't find one that is black and white and lots bigger! If anyone has any ideas of where to look for something like this let me know!

Saturday morning I joined the Decatur community to support awareness for breast cancer.

The Power of Pink Walk honors a wonderful women...Lee Lott!

Mrs. Lott is the kind of person that is always HAPPY and always POSITIVE and she stayed that way during her fight with breast cancer!

Last weekend Melissa, Kate, and I headed to Nasvhille on Friday. We woke up bright and early on Saturday morning to run in the Women's Running Magazine 5K...we passed on the 1/2 marathon.

The weather was wonderful! The course had some hills but we made it to the finish line!

Kate had her phone while running and snapped this picture of me...almost at the finish line!

Jo De Messina (county singer...for those of you that do not listen to country music) sang the National Anthem at the start of the race and then came across the finish line just behind Kate and me.

Take 2 on my house repairs begins tomorrow and I hope and pray there is NOT a take 3!!

The workers arrive tomorrow at 8:15 a.m. to lay and level the screeds. The work is suppose to be done in 2 days.

Next and final step will be laying the hardwood.

I hope this is the last picture I ever take of my house looking like this.

I am almost embarressed to post this next picture....

This is what one of my guest bedroom looks like. Everything that belongs in the living room and dinning room is stuffed in this room.

I can't wait to get everything back in its place!!!

Friday night Ginny and I headed north to Nashville.

Saturday morning TT met us at our hotel and we headed to Blazer's baby shower. She is having twins...Price and Palmer. It was almost like a mini OOC Reunion because everyone was there minus 2....we missed you Rigsby and Jennifer.

Saturday night we headed to Blazer and Blakes house for a cookout, to catch up more, and take a tour of the nursery. The twins got LOTS of cute things and it was great to see everyone.

House Update

This is for Lori and anyone else who is wondering about my house...

My house is still without floors and it is now day 28! I feel like these 28 days have been 128!

The foundation company came and "jacked up" my house. However, they were unable to "jack it up" all the way....which means my floors are not level. I have had a concrete company come to look at my house to see if they would pour self-leveling concrete on top of the slab. They decided it was not the best idea because the concrete would be so thin and not 100% guaranteed.

I then moved on to a hardwood floor company. They are hopefully coming next week to look at my house. They are thinking a general contractor might be needed.

I am so over living in a house like this. I like things in their place and organized. All my furniture from my living room and dinning room is stuck in my 2 guest bedrooms and den. I feel like the show Hoarders is going to knock on my door at any minute.

After a LONG day from 9:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m. the repairs are complete.

All the dirt is back under the house and the holes are filled in.

I was told that there would probably be some cracking when they "jacked it up".

I have about 6 cracks in the sheet rock that look like this....

I just hope some joint compound will helps these out and make them at least not be so noticeable!

Today there was more digging and so there are now 4 LARGE bags and 2 LARGE piles of dirt sitting in my living room. They were able to get one piling in today....5 more to go.

If all goes as planned they will be done tomorrow!!

Today was day one of repairs at my house. I had planned to stay at my house while they were working. I quickly changed my mind when they started jack hammering the slab. The noise and the vibration was more than I could handle. When I got back this afternoon there were 3 huge holes and 3 huge bags of dirt.

Does this picture look a little slanted? I did turn the camera to exaggerated it a little BUT my house really is slanted/sinking. I noticed the problem a while back. I finally decided to have someone come and check it out. After a few companies came to look at I picked one and they are coming Monday to "JACK UP" my house. I am just hoping this fixes the problem. I have been told that it does not always work.

The company is going to drill holes inside my house since i am on a slab and not a crawl space.

I have cleaned out the living room, dining room, and hallway where the work will be done.

One reason I loved my house when I bought it was the wonderful hardwood floors. Well, they have to come up. Alabama Hardwood is coming to tear them out tomorrow. It is killing me to know they will be torn out and tossed in the trash and there is NOTHING wrong with them. Alabama Hardwood is coming back after my house is "JACKED UP" to put new hardwoods down. I just hope the stain matches my other hardwood floors and it looks like nothing ever happened!

T-Ball City Tournament

Baseball is a SERIOUS sport here in Decatur. T-ball is no exception. The players may only be 4, 5, and 6 years old but some games I thought we were watching the World Series. The coaches and families REALLY get into the game. I am a proud aunt and have to say I took it a little too serious sometimes too. I had to remember these players are young and most of them are out there to just have FUN! This is Put's 2nd year to play and he has improved so much since last year. The morning after his games he would give me a play by play at school of the game....he remembers EVERYTHING!

His team, The Marlins came in 2nd place.

Meet Caroline, a spunky little girl who needed a fun way to celebrate her 8th birthday. Her mom and I decided to plan a painting party at my house. Her mom and I could not be more different when it comes to planning. Her mom is the kind that does her best thinking and planning under pressure (close to the party date). I on the other hand like to think, rethink, and then think again about how I can make it just perfect. So after lots of ideas going through my brain and with the help of others we set a date.
Everything was set and ready....

We painted the canvases and traced their initial ahead of time....

Then it was time to PAINT!!!

After the girls painted the 1st coat it was then time for CAKE!!

The girls left their artwork at my house for me to spray and add ribbon.Caroline and her mom will then deliver them to each girl.

They turned out so cute. I could not have asked for a better group of girls for my 1st experience with a painting party. I had a great time and hope to do it again soon for another birthday party!

This was my home for the weekend WITH 8 of my best friends!

Some of the girls I only see once I year. I really wish we could see each more often. I had such a great weekend I did not want it to end.

I was the last one to arrive so I met everyone at our old stomping grounds, The Red Bar.

After a WONDERFUL dinner we headed back to the house to relax and to get our prizes from TT...our soundtrack for the weekend and t-shirts!

Seaside 1/2 Marathon

Last year after the 1/2 marathon in Seaside I said, "I WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN!!!" I guess I should never say never because this year I was there again. My goal this year was to beat my time even if it was just 1 second faster. I met my goal but not by much.

We stayed in this awesome house and had a great time.

My countertops are going to be installed on SATURDAY! I am so excited but then again very nervous. I just hope they look good!!
I went last week and finally picked out my facuet.

I never knew it would be so hard to pick one. I have loved looking at all the options but with a budget it is always harder to pick something!

My curtains that I have in my kitchen now I LOVE but they will no longer match once I have black countertops. I am now looking for the perfect fabric for my curtains. My kitchen wall color is green, cabinets white, and my countertops will be black. I am trying to stick to those colors for the curtains.

Here are some of the options so far...

The next thing on my list is a new front door. I love the one below, minus the mail slip and with brushed nickel hardware.

I love a wood door but then again they don't age very well. I have been told that fibgerglass will last a lot longer and is much easier to maintain and MUCH cheaper.

Any thoughts, wood or fiberglass???

SNOW, SNOW, and more SNOW!

The snow began to fall around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday night. The weathermen predicted 4-8 inches. Who would have thought they would be correct! It just snowed on Christmas day, there was NO WAY it could snow again in ALABAMA.

8:00 p.m.

9:00 p.m.....it just kept snowing...

and snowing! There was 5 inches on my deck when I went to bed and it was still snowing!

Monday morning I woke and this is what the front of my house looked like....

almost 9 inches of snow!!!!

I stayed warm inside but did have this cute little girl to keep my company!

The snow is s....l....o...w...l....y melting and the temperatures are s....l...o...w....l....y rising out of the teens.

Schools were closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We went in at 10:00 on Thursday and Friday. We are out on Monday for MLK day. It is going to be really hard on Tuesday to get up for school and actually stay from 7:00-3:00.

I had lots of little children in my class on Thursday that were ready to play in the snow when they got to school. We made a snowman that turned out pretty cute!

My new appliances were installed in my kitchen and I was going to start saving for my bathroom renovations! However, I found a GREAT deal on granite for my kitchen counters that I could not pass up. I went back and forth about what color for about a week. I finally decided on this...

The company that is installing them is booked until February so I have to to wait until them. I now have to decided on a facuet....

Christmas Eve day started with these 2 cuties coming over and playing in the endless piles of leaves in my backyard.

Christmas Eve night we continued our tradition of everyone coming to my house.

My grandfather has been in and out of the hospital and the nursing home for rehab on his leg...so we were THRILLED that he was able to join us for Christmas Eve.

3 generations of PUT'S!The weather man predicted snow for Christmas day but I never thought it would really happen. This is what I woke up to on Christmas Day.

There is nothing more perfect than a WHITE CHRISTMAS!

The 1st stop on Christmas morning was Put's house.

He LOVES football especially Rolando McClain who now plays for the RAIDERS who once played for ALABAMA and DECATUR.

He also LOVES his video games. This is the newest addition to his video game...a car you drive for a racing game.

The next stop was my parents house were Jack was still fast asleep.

We finally woke him up for him to see what Santa brought.

When he came around the corner his face was priceless!

BLACK Friday and CYBER Monday!

BLACK Friday my sister and I woke up BRIGHT and EARLY to arrive at Target at 4:00 a.m. I think the weather was trying to tell us to stay in bed because it was rainy, windy, and COLD but we loaded up and went anyways! I was on the hunt for a camera and a sewing machine. If you know me you know I have NEVER EVER SEWN ANYTHING! I have been wanting to try so I thought I would buy an inexpensive sewing machine and try it out. Guess what? It is still in the box but I have promised myself that I will get it out during Christmas break. I passed on the camera because the line for the electronics was WAY TO LONG!

Thank goodness we did the OLD NAVY shopping the day before with my mom and and other sister...by the time we left TARGET I was tired, cold, and wet and just wanted to get back in my bed.

I was a little upset about not getting the camera at Target. So I began looking online for a CYBER Monday deal. I found one that actually ended up being a much better deal! My mom has the Canon Rebel XSi...that is what I wanted. Just my luck, they no longer make that model. My choice was either go way up in price or go down a little in price. I LOVE to take pictures but I really know nothing about what I am doing so I decided on the cheaper camera. I ended up getting the Canon Rebel XS, Canon EF 75-300 mm Telephoto Zoom Lens, 2GB Memory Card, Camera Bag...I got all of this for what I was going to pay for just the camera a Target. FED EX delivered everything yesterday and I can't wait to play with my new camera.....MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME!

Santa will be here soon....

Every year my parents would go ALL OUT and get my sisters and I pretty much everything we asked for. Santa coming to visit us and "Back to School Shopping" were big deals in my house growing up.

As we got older it got harder and harder for my parents to buy for us. My parents still do go all out on our stockings which is my favorite. Now though instead of gifts they give us money....what a great gift, which means I get just what I want....
I know that CHRISTmas is not about the presents but it sure was fun shopping around online to see what I might want....nothing extravagant....

My owl tree is up! Now on to the big tree in the living room.

5k Jingle Bell Run

Sunday I laced up my shoes with jingle bells and joined friends for the 5k Jingle Bell run in Madison.

We all met at Melissa's before the race.

Here I am at the finish line. The aprons we wore drove me crazy while I was walking/running so I turned mine around. I forgot about it and the man at the finish line entering our race numbers is asking me where mine is....

We of course had to get our picture made with Santa and The Grinch.

Our friend Ashley is having her 1st baby next month so we got together at Ann Kate's (THE BEST HOSTESS EVER) in Birmingham for a baby shower.

We had a great time and got to catch up since the last time we were together was in February. All of us attended Auburn and everyone EXCEPT me is an AUBURN fan. So of course there was just a little trash talk from them about the IRON BOWL this Friday. I did not say much but I guess my dress said it all.

I had a great time girls and can't wait to see EVERYONE for OOC WEEKEND!

He did not stop running and sliding the entire night, which makes for not very clear pictures.

Pumpkin Fest

A few weekends ago my friends Melissa and Debbie and I set out for Pumpkin Fest in Franklin, TN.

They had lots of activities for children like pumkin decorating.

We took a break from walking and shopping and had a delicious lunch! We ate at a cute little country restaurant called Puckett's. I had the best buttermilk chess pie I have ever eaten!

We saw LOTS of costumes...some a little creepy!

We walked up and down the streets of Franklin and found lots of cute shops...

We had had enough of the crowd and decided to leave down town and head to The Factory. While sitting in traffic leaving downtown we were stopped right in front of this cute antique mall. I spotted something...as Melissa and Debbie say I can spot an owl from a mile away.

These two flower pots are what I spotted and I of course had to have them.
After jumping out of the car in traffic to go in and buy them we then headed to The Factory.
The weather was beautiful and I had a great time. We decided we might go back to Franklin to shop but not during Pumpkin Fest, the crowd was a little much for us.

Wednesday was a long day...not just for me but the people that installed my new appliances. All was going well until they told me that their paperwork said I had ordered a slide in range and that that was what they had in their van. I was upset until they told me it was no big deal that they could install and slide in too. I let them begin and then I started wondering maybe the slide in was not stainless like the one ordered. I got online and put in the model number that was on the box and on their paperwork. The range that came up was the one I ordred...a drop in. By this time they had done all the cutting for a slide in. I asked if we could open the box to see what the range looked like....probably should of done this from the start. Well, it was the exact drop in range I ordered....just in the wrong box. The man looked at me and said..."I have already cut for a slide in, now I am going to have to put it all back." Until we realized that I could save money and take the drop in that I ordered back and get a slide in. So we loaded up and headed to Sears. The one I wanted was not in stock so I had to buy the floor model....that saved me even more money.

We then headed back to my house for them to finish installing....it was smooth sailing from there. I love my new appliances and I think they look great...WAY better than the 1970's appliances that I had.

I had planned on stopping there with the appliances and move on to redo my bathroom. Once again my plan has changed...the OH SO NICE man and woman that installed my appliances also do counter tops. So now I am in the process of deciding what kind and color. I also kept my white fridge because it is fairly new...now I am thinking it needs to be stainless too.

I have white cabinents and terra cotta looking tile floor and now stainless appliances...any thoughts on what color and kind of counter tops I need????

Today I woke up BRIGHT and EARLY to join friends to run in the Liz Hurley 5K Ribbon Run in Huntsville. We meet at Melissa's house and then headed on our way. The weather was beautiful! There was a great turn out for the run. LOTS and LOTS of runners!

I am slowly getting my house back together. On Monday I shopped around for mums for my front porch...my house is starting to look festive for fall...my favorite time of year!

My love of OWLS continues. Everywhere I go I see owls. There are many I have passed up. I could not pass this one up. I found the cute little guy called "owl on a stick" at Trish Land.
My guest room has new bedding.

Appliance #1 was delievered today....my microwave. The others are to arrive and be installed next Wednesday. They are going to have to cut my counter tops and cabinets for the range to fit. I just hope it is not a HUGE and timely task!

DHS Homecoming Parade

Today Put and I left school and headed to Bank Street for the Decatur High Homecoming Parade. He was decked out in his jersey to show his support.

He got to play before the parade started with Ross who he does not get to see very often now that they go to different schools.
